Let’s face it: none of us love moving in the winter. Nevertheless, life happens. Sometimes we aren’t in control of our time frame. The good news is that there are definite advantages to buying in the winter.

In some areas, inventory is low. This leads to multiple offers that drive up the purchase price of the home. However, there are fewer buyers in looking in the winter. This means there is less competition, and sellers may even be willing to sell for less.

Sellers will be especially prone to lowering the price if the home has been on the market for several months or if their home is vacant, since no one likes paying utilities on a property they aren’t currently living in. These factors could be to your advantage.

It could be that the seller also has to move during the winter due to a life event such as job transfer or divorce. As such, they may be anxious to move and willing to strike a better deal.
